About

I’m Stuart McMillen, and I create longform social commentary comics based on real-life historical events.

Born in Bundaberg in 1985, I now live in Canberra, Australia where I have been a studio resident of Gorman Arts Centre since 2018. I draw thoughtful comics about issues that are important to me, and self-publish through this website for the world to read.

I use comics as my medium of choice for my thought-provoking non-fiction stories. The comics hosted on my website have found audiences after being shared through social media platforms like Reddit, with Rat Park, War on Drugs, St Matthew Island, Supernormal Stimuli, and Energy Slaves being five of my best-known examples.

My current project is creating my debut full-length graphic novel, The Town Without Television. This book will by published by Scribe Publications in Australia as well as in the United States/Canada in 2025. Learn more about this project.

I am a crowdfunded cartoonist, with an ongoing crowdfunding campaign hosted at crowdfundstu.com. Readers from around the world support my art by pledging a recurring monthly payment via Patreon. Please watch my three-minute pitch video at crowdfundstu.com to see how you can help become a patron of my comics and support my work.

New readers: where to begin?

If you are a new reader, see my ‘Top 10‘ list of my personal favourite comics. It is a good “where to begin?” resource for newcomers.
